Cisco Umbrella for Government provides you with the following security functions:
- DNS security protects you on and off the network by blocking requests to malicious domains which stops threats over any port or protocol before they reach your network or endpoints.
- Your interaction with Umbrella for Government is implemented using several mechanisms:
- Security information on malicious files and domains is retrieved from external services including Cisco Umbrella Commercial service, Cisco Talos, and Cisco Advanced Malware Protection.. Information from external intelligence sources is also retrieved and is used to evaluate customer traffic for malicious content. In-scope customer data or metadata is never transmitted to these services.
- Cisco Business Intelligence is sent a set of telemetry data that has been filtered to ensure that it does not contain in-scope data or metadata. This information is processed out-of-boundary by Cisco’s Business Intelligence team to assess adoption and utilization of the service.
- Cisco’s provisioning system is used to initiate the account creation process by providing the in-boundary Umbrella for Government API with the initial information needed to generate accounts. Once an account is created authenticators and login information is created inside the boundary and distributed directly to customers to begin accessing the system.
Get Started
Register a fixed network by adding a Network Identity and then protect your systems.
- Register a fixed network by adding a Network identity.
An identity is an entity that you enforce policy against and report on. - Point your DNS to Cisco Umbrella.
You need to explicitly point your operating system or hardware firewall/router DNS settings to Umbrella's name server IP addresses and turn off the automatic DNS servers provided by your ISP. Umbrella supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. - Add a policy.
Through policies, define how security and access controls are applied to identities, determining whether traffic is inspected and either blocked or allowed.
