Upload Custom PAC Files to Umbrella

To bypass additional internal domains on the secure web gateway (SWG), you can create custom PAC files and upload them to Umbrella. Once uploaded to Umbrella, your PAC files are available on Umbrella for you to use in your environment.

Umbrella supports IP-based domains. However, you must enter the IP in the browser’s address bar as the domain portion of the URL. For example, https://1.2.3.4/URLpath/. The PAC file does not resolve a domain to IP before matching an IP-based domain for bypass.

Prerequisites

• Full Admin user role. For more information, see Manage Accounts.
• To download the Umbrella PAC file or custom PAC files, connect to Umbrella on a fixed Network or Network Tunnel. Register your fixed networks or network tunnels with Umbrella.

Requirements for Uploading Custom PAC Files in Umbrella

• You can upload a maximum of five custom PAC files in Umbrella.
• The custom PAC file is 256KB or less.
• The custom PAC filename is unique in Umbrella.
• The custom PAC filename is case sensitive.
• The custom PAC filename can include alphabetical or numeric characters, hyphens, and underscores.
• The custom PAC file has the .pac extension.

Procedure

Upload your custom PAC Files to Umbrella.

1. Navigate to Policies > Management > Web Policy, and then click Global Settings.

   

2. Navigate to PAC Files > Custom Files, and then click Add File.

   

3. For Add Custom PAC File, drop your custom PAC file in Umbrella or click on the text area to select a custom PAC file from your local system. For information about requirements for uploading custom PAC files, see Requirements for Uploading Custom PAC Files in Umbrella.

   

4. After you upload your custom PAC file, click Apply.

   

Upload Custom PAC File with Invalid Filename

1. If you upload a file that has an invalid filename, Umbrella displays an error message.

2. Click Cancel, and then add a custom PAC file with a valid filename.

Manage Uploaded Custom PAC Files

You can view the uploaded custom PAC files, get the URL for a custom PAC file, replace the contents of the custom PAC file, or rename the custom PAC file in Umbrella.

View Custom PAC Files in Umbrella

1. Navigate to Policies > Management > Web Policy, and then click Global Settings.

2. Navigate to Custom Files.
   After you add a custom PAC file, Umbrella lists the custom PAC file.

   

Copy URL for Custom PAC File

1. Navigate to Policies > Management > Web Policy, and then click Global Settings.

2. Navigate to Custom Files.

3. Click on the copy-to-clipboard icon to get the URL for the custom PAC file.

   

Rename Custom PAC File

1. Navigate to a custom PAC file, and then click Edit (pencil icon).
2. Provide a new name for the custom PAC file, and then click Save.

Replace Custom PAC File

1. Navigate to a custom PAC file, and then click Replace (continuous circle icon).

2. Upload or select a new custom PAC file to replace the existing custom PAC file.

   

3. Click Apply.
